Paul-Peter Tak has served as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the AMC, Amsterdam, the Netherlands since 1999. Professor Tak received his medical degree from VU University Amsterdam, graduating cum laude. He trained as an internist, rheumatologist and immunologist at Leiden University Medical Center, where he also received his PhD. He worked as a visiting scientist at the School of Medicine at University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, USA, for 2 years and was affiliated with this university as clinical associate professor for a further 5 years. From 2004 to 2008 he also served as medical director of the Dubai Bone and Joint Center (Dubai, United Arab Emirates). In 2005 he founded Arthrogen B.V., a biotech company developing gene therapy. He joined GlaxoSmithKline as Senior Vice President and Head of the ImmunoInflammation Therapy Area in September 2011.
Professor Tak has been a member of the European League against Rheumatism (EULAR) Scientific Committee and Executive Committee and a member of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee of the American College of Rheumatology. He further acted as chairman of the EULAR Standing Committee on Investigative Rheumatology as well as chairman of the Grant Advisory Council for EULAR’s Orphan Disease Programme on systemic sclerosis. He served on many editorial boards, including as co-editor of Arthritis & Rheumatism. He has published about 400 papers in international, peer-reviewed journals.
Maria Suarez-Almazor, MD, PhD, is a rheumatologist with a PhD in Epidemiology. She is Deputy Chair for Research and the Barnts Family Distinguished Professor of Medicine in the Department of General Internal Medicine at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. She is also Head of the Section of Rheumatology as well as the Head of the Section of Clinical Research and Education at this institution. Her research interests include health care decision-making, patient-physician communication, the determinants and outcomes of therapeutic adherence, and developing effective strategies for risk communication. Dr. Suarez-Almazor has been awarded several federal grants to conduct research in these topics and has over 217 peer-reviewed publications.
Paul-Peter Tak est professeur de médecine et directeur de la division de l'immunologie clinique et de rhumatologie à l'Academic Medical Center (AMC), Amsterdam, Pays-Bas depuis 1999. Professeur Tak a obtenu son diplôme de médecine à la VU University d'Amsterdam, et il a été reçu avec mention. Il a été formé en tant qu'interniste, rhumatologue et immunologiste au Centre médical de Leiden University, où il a également reçu son doctorat. En 2005, il a fondé Arthrogen B.V., une entreprise biotech qui crée une thérapie génétique. Il est entré à GlaxoSmithKline en tant que Premier vice-président et chef du domaine de la Thérapie immuno inflammation en septembre 2011.
Professeur Tak a siégé au Comité scientifique et du Bureau de direction de la Ligue européenne contre le rhumatisme (EULAR) et il a également siégé au Comité de planification de l'Assemblée annuelle de l'American College of Rheumatology. Il a en outre été président du Comité permanent d'EULAR sur la recherche stratégique sur la rhumatologie ainsi que président du Conseil consultatif des subventions pour le « programme des maladies orphelines » sur la sclérose systémique d'EULAR. Il a aussi siégé à divers Comités de rédaction, notamment en tant que corédacteur d'Arthritis & Rheumatism. Il a publié environ 400 articles dans des journaux internationaux évalués par les pairs.
Maria Suarez-Almazor, MD, PhD, est une rhumatologue avec un doctorat en épidémiologie. Elle est vice-présidente pour la recherche et la professeure de médecine distinguée Barnts Family dans la faculté de médecine interne générale à The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr Suarez-Almazor a reçu plusieurs subventions fédérales pour faire une recherche sur ces sujets et elle a publié plus de 217 publications à comité de lecture.
