Hip Fracture in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis: Incidence, Complications and Health Services Used (HIRA Study)

Principal Investigators: Jones, A; Lacaille, D.
Co-investigators:  Guy, P; Xie, H.

Project Summary

We found that despite a higher incidence of hip fractures in RA, mortality post hip fracture did not differ from controls, except for a lower risk of all-cause mortality 90-day post hip fracture, after adjusting for age, sex and other potentially confounding factors. Further research is needed to understand RA-specific characteristics influencing post-fracture mortality risk and health services used during recovery.
