Previously, METHYLPREDNISOLONE (Depo-Medrol R) was produced by several manufacturers, who have since left the market, leaving Pfizer as the sole supplier. Distributed by McKesson in Ontario, a shortage of the DM80mg/cc formulation was announced in March 2024.
This shortage was triggered by a label change rather than a manufacturing issue and has now been resolved.
IMPORTANT: McKesson has changed their unique product number (not the DIN) for the re-labelled 80mg/cc formulation from Pfizer. If you try to order using the old McKesson product number (927095), it may appear as ‘discontinued”; the new unique McKesson # 190333, should be used at this time.
Depo-Medrol 40 mg/cc formulation is undergoing a similar label change and will show as “discontinued” if ordering with the old McKesson product number, on or after the middle of June; we will provide the new product order number when it is available
Ensure that the new unique product numbers are used when ordering both the 40 mg and 80 mg Depo-Medrol via McKesson in Ontario.
