Dr. Andrew Thompson has been dedicated to the education of his rheumatology colleagues, family physicians, allied health professionals, residents, students, and patients. During his rheumatology fellowship at UBC, he improved the curriculum and published the Rheumatology Pocket Reference that has been highly successful. He completed his Masters degree in Health Professions Education at University of Illinois, and is the director undergraduate rheumatology education at Western. He has served the CRA working with the website, Education and Therapeutics committees. He started tweeting information from the ACR with RheumReports and more education packaged easily in 250 words or less will come. He is passionate about useful information and conveys it to others in a fun format.
Many of us use his resources for free on RheumInfo that are unbranded and encompass patient information sheets, standardized infusion orders, and evidence based prescriptions. He now has RheumTalks and other effective operations that will aid office practices. He has 25 publications, especially pertaining to different aspects of his education interests. Andy has received grant support for the multicentre study examining his Canadian Arthritis Referral Tool (CART) to effectively triage patients.
Andy has developed rheumatology curriculum content for physicians as well as allied health professionals, including modules and videos. His Health Literacy work is aimed at communicating effectively with patients to improve adherence, outcomes and patient satisfaction. He has received the TAS Clinician Teacher Award, Honour Roll Award of Excellence at Western, Honorary Class President, and Junior Teacher Award of Excellence. Andy has provided years of dedication to the CRA with excellence in teaching and education!
