2023 Emerging Teacher-Educator
Dr. Steven Thomson
Steven completed his Bachelor of Medical Science and his Master of Science at the University of Western Ontario. He then moved to the University of Calgary where he completed Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He joined the University of Calgary faculty and led the local implementation of Competency by Design for Rheumatology. Most recently he has taken on the role of Rheumatology Residency Program Director. His teaching duties include weekly MSK teaching sessions, multiple academic half days for different groups, as well as lectures for the medical school and directing the CME activities for the Division of Rheumatology in Calgary. Nationally, he has joined the CRA Education committee where he serves on the Continuing Professional Development sub-committee. He has recently started his own training in MSK ultrasound, if only to try to stay one step of the learners, who continually keep him on his toes! In the future, he looks forward to learning more from his trainees as their questions continue to promote self-reflection and ongoing learning.
