Dr. Anna Elfiky Oswald

2018 Teacher-Educator Award

Dr. Anna Oswald is a Rheumatologist and Associate Professor at the University of Alberta with cross appointment to the Faculty of Education. Her training includes: MD (University of Alberta, U of A), core Internal Medicine residency (Dalhousie), rheumatology subspecialty (U of A), 1 year Visiting Scholar Medical Education (McGill) and a Masters in Medical Education (University of Dundee). Anna is active in classroom and bedside teaching and has been the recipient of several local and national teaching awards, including the U of A Rutherford Award for Undergraduate teaching and the Canadian Association of Medical Education Certificate of Merit.

Anna is a Clinician Educator for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  At the U of A, she is the Director of Competency Based Medical Education for the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FoMD), is one of the coordinators of the Masters in Health Professions Education Curriculum Design course, and is the co-director of pre-clerkship education for the MD program.

Anna previously coordinated the pre-clerkship MSK course for the U of A MD program (10 years) and the Canadian Rheumatology Association National Residents’ pre-course (3 years). Anna holds grants in education research and has been recognized as one of The Arthritis Society’s Clinician Educators.
